Russia is technically ready to connect to the international SWIFT system. This was stated by the head of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market, Anatoly Aksakov.
I think there is no problem with SWIFT, in principle, all our systems are configured. The main thing is that they want to. Is it necessary? I think that in the interests of the matter, it is quite possible, while alternative systems must be developed. From my point of view, SWIFT is a thing of the past, already outdated technology.
He noted that new opportunities for settlements have now been worked out. The development of digital technologies and crypto-instruments will lead to a change in the settlement system, which may make interaction with SWIFT more efficient.
After the introduction of sanctions, SWIFT ceased to be the main channel for Russia, and now the exchange of financial messages is carried out through the System for Transfer of Financial Messages of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation (SPFS).
It is worth noting that Russia is planning to launch a new BRICS Pay system in 2025. It was expected that it would appear in the BRICS member countries and become an alternative to SWIFT.
