The new power plant will avoid reducing mobility due to increased weight

The Russian main battle tank T-80 will receive a new gas turbine engine, according to Deputy Head of the Main Armored Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Major General Sergei Shaleny.

According to him, the new power plant will avoid reducing mobility, which could occur due to an increase in weight against the background of the modernization of the vehicle.

Soon, an engine that has no analogues in the world, will be installed on our tanks.
Sergei Shaleny, Major General

The T-80 is the only Russian tank with a gas turbine engine. The vehicle was adopted in 1976. In the West, the tank is nicknamed the "flying" tank for its famous acceleration to 80 km/h.

Earlier www1.ru reported that the Russian Aerospace Forces will receive a new version of the Su-57 fighter in 2025.
