It has begun? Four powerful flares on the Sun on Tuesday, but not yet class X

In the first half of the day, powerful flares of the penultimate class M were recorded on the Sun

The Institute of Applied Geophysics registered four powerful class M flares on the Sun on Tuesday, February 4.

The first flare occurred almost immediately after midnight: at 00:12 Moscow time, scientists recorded a class M1.5 flare lasting 12 minutes in the X-ray range in spot group 3981 (N06E16).

Later, three more flares were recorded: at 03:50 Moscow time, a M1.3 flare lasting 23 minutes occurred in spot group 3981 (N04E10), then at 04:48 Moscow time in the same group (N05E11) — a M2.7 flare lasting 29 minutes, and at 08:18 Moscow time in spot group 3977 (N16W16) — a M1.2 flare lasting 19 minutes.

Class M flares registered on February 4 can cause temporary radio communication disruptions and minor disturbances in the ionosphere, but do not in themselves guarantee powerful geomagnetic storms.

Earlier www1.ru reported that a powerful class X magnetic storm is expected on Earth. It may occur on February 4.
