Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom State Corporation, stated that the site for the Paks-2 NPP in Hungary is fully ready for the first concrete pouring.
Hungary has fully prepared the site for the first concrete at the Paks-2 NPP.
The pouring of the first concrete into the foundation of the reactor compartment will mark the beginning of the construction of the new power unit. This event is expected to take place in the first quarter of 2025.
It is worth recalling that in late 2014, Russia and Hungary signed an agreement on the construction of new power units No. 5 and No. 6 (Paks-2 NPP). For these purposes, Moscow will provide Budapest with a state loan of up to 10 billion euros. The total cost of the work is 12.5 billion euros. A construction license for the power units has already been issued.
It should be noted that Hungary has only one operating NPP, Paks. It is located 100 kilometers from Budapest. The station produces almost half of all electricity in Hungary. With the commissioning of new units (Paks-2), this share is expected to double. This will have a positive impact on the country's energy security.
