TNI: US Monitored Russian Aircraft Carrier \"Admiral Kuznetsov\" in 2011

In 2011, the United States Navy monitored the Russian aircraft carrier "Admiral Kuznetsov." This was reported by geopolitical analyst Brandon Weichert in an article for The National Interest.

He noted that during its deployment to the Mediterranean Sea to support Syria in 2011, the US Navy closely monitored the aircraft carrier, fearing it might sink.

Weichert clarified that the surveillance of the Russian vessel was ordered by the Sixth Fleet of the American Naval Forces, which was to provide assistance in the event of the aircraft carrier sinking.

The "Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Kuznetsov" is a Russian aircraft-carrying cruiser of Project 1143.5, the flagship and the only aircraft-carrying ship of the Russian Navy. In December 2011, the "Admiral Kuznetsov" went to the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Syria with a detachment of ships from the Northern Fleet.

Since 2017, the cruiser has been undergoing repairs and modernization at the 35th Ship Repair Plant of the "Zvezdochka" Ship Repair Center, which is part of the USC). The deadline for commissioning is at the end of 2024.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Aeroflot will be the first in Russia to take aircraft on wet lease.
