Digital twin of the eye, developed at Volgograd State Technical University, has improved the effectiveness of corneal surgeries

ISTC: Keratoconus can lead to vision loss

Scientists from Volgograd State Technical University and the branch of the Intersectoral Scientific and Technical Complex (ISTC) "Microsurgery of the Eye named after Academician Fyodorov" of the Ministry of Health of Russia have created a digital twin of the cornea of the eye. The development helped to increase the effectiveness of keratoconus surgeries by 30%. This was reported in the ISTC.

Keratoconus is a dystrophic disease of the cornea of the eye. It curves in the shape of a cone, which leads to a decrease in visual acuity.

The digital twin of the cornea of the eye is a computer model that allows predicting the effect of surgical intervention. With its help, doctors choose the conditions of the operation to get the maximum result.

Scientists have already received a patent for the method and are using it in the Volgograd branch of the ISTC.
