There will be more automatic cameras at railway crossings. This is an initiative of the Ministry of Transport. The authorities want to expand the list of reasons for their installation.
However, cameras will not be installed everywhere. Video recording will be required at railway crossings where at least one accident has occurred, as well as where there are no barriers and attendants.
According to the authorities' estimates, the installation costs will amount to 3 billion rubles over six years. The Ministry of Transport proposes that the costs of installing cameras be borne by the owners of the track infrastructure, such as Russian Railways and other organizations.
Violations recorded by the camera will be transmitted to the traffic police. After that, drivers will receive fines. The maximum of these is 5 thousand rubles. The Ministry of Transport emphasizes that they want to combat the growing number of accidents. However, how to reduce them with the help of cameras is unclear.
Recall that in the nine months of 2024, 127 accidents occurred at railway crossings in Russia. This is more than in the same period last year by 8.5%. 52 people died in the accidents, and 154 were injured.
