Selling like hotcakes: Russians spent the most money on new Lada and Geely cars in 2024

In the first 9 months of this year, Russians spent 3.6 trillion rubles on cars

In the first three quarters of 2024, Russians spent 3.6 trillion rubles on the purchase of new passenger cars. This is 73% more than in the same period last year, when the amount was 2.08 trillion rubles.

The increase in the financial capacity of the market during the reporting period is largely due to the growth in sales of new cars, analysts at Avtostat said. In addition, from January to September 2024, the Russian market showed an increase of 6.1%. This demand arose due to the rise in the price of cars. Previously, representatives of Russian dealerships warned that following the increase in prices for new cars, the cost of used cars would also increase.

The largest expenses in the period from the beginning of 2024 were for the purchase of Lada and Geely cars - 416 billion and 415 billion rubles, respectively. The list of leaders in car sales in Russia also includes brands such as Haval (362 billion rubles), Chery (349 billion rubles) and Changan (237 billion rubles).

These brands took the top five places in the ranking of the most popular brands among Russians. They accounted for 49.4% of all funds spent on the purchase of new cars in the first 9 months of 2024.

As a reminder, the Russian Lada Granta turned out to be among the five most popular new sedans in the world. Toyota Corolla was in first place in sales, Honda Civic was in second, and Hyundai Elantra was in third. The Nissan Sentra car slightly outperformed the domestic car.
