The international mission Crew-8 - Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin and NASA astronauts Matthew Dominick, Michael Barratt, and Jeanette Epps - are still waiting for the opportunity to undock from the ISS and splash down near the American state of Florida. Over the past almost two weeks, their departure has been postponed more than four times due to weather conditions on Earth.
Weather conditions in the area of several splashdown zones off the coast of Florida remain unfavorable for the return of NASA's SpaceX Crew-8 mission from the International Space Station. Mission managers continue to monitor weather conditions and will meet at 11:00 a.m. EDT on Saturday, October 19, for the next weather briefing. If weather conditions improve, NASA and SpaceX are now targeting no earlier than 3:05 a.m. EDT on Monday, October 21, for undocking from the space station.
In 2024, as part of the cross-flights of Roscosmos and NASA, in which Grebenkin participated, Russia returned two American astronauts to Earth. All undockings from the ISS and landings took place as scheduled and in normal mode.
Thus, in June, the Soyuz MS-24 returned to Earth with an international space crew on board. Together with Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky and the first Belarusian cosmonaut Marina Vasilevskaya, NASA astronaut Loral O'Haralanded. And in September, as part of the cross-flight agreement, the Soyuz MS-25 with NASA astronaut Tracy Dyson and Russian cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko, Nikolai Chublanded in Kazakhstan, near the city of Zhezkazgan.
