Bulgarian Military Names Countries to Which Russia Exported Kilo-Class Submarines

The Kilo class is the collective name in NATO for submarines of the Paltus and Varshavyanka projects

The launching ceremony of the large diesel-electric submarine "Yakutsk" (project 636 "Varshavyanka") took place at the Admiralty Shipyards (part of USC) in St. Petersburg. Journalists from Bulgarian Military are following the construction and export of these submarines. It turned out that the operators of Kilo-class submarines are states friendly to the Russian Federation.

According to NATO classification, submarines of projects 636.3 "Varshavyanka" and 877 "Paltus" belong to the Kilo class. As Bulgarian Military writes, the "Varshavyanka" submarines are called "Improved Kilo". They are equipped with advanced sonar, navigation and weapon systems, and also carry Kalibr cruise missiles.

Submarines of both projects were exported to other countries, including China, India and Algeria.
