A Russian Su-30SM fighter jet eliminated an unmanned aerial vehicle near the line of combat engagement. The footage has gone viral on social media.
The video shows the aircraft initially tracking the target and then hitting it with an air-to-air missile.
Military expert Evgeny Damantsev clarified that the fighter used a short-to-medium-range R-73RMD-2 missile. It is believed that a UJ-22 fixed-wing UAV was shot down.
Obviously, the target was initially detected against the background of the earth's surface by the N011M "Bars-R" radar, then located and tracked by the thermal signature of the engine using the OLS-UEM optoelectronic targeting complex, coupled with the helmet-mounted targeting system. After that, target designation was issued to the homing head of the R-73 RMD-2/R-74M missile.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Rostec delivered a new batch of armored BMD-4M and BMP-3 vehicles with "Nakidka" protection kits to the troops. The additional protection includes products for enhancing armor and slat screens.
