Testing of the manned submersible "Jason", designed to service offshore gas pipelines at depths of up to 2,250 m, is scheduled to begin in 2025, according to Vasily Ustinov, Assistant to the President of the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute".
Currently, testing of individual components is underway, which are being supplied to the "Sevmash" plant.
According to him, this is a unique submersible, with no analogues in Russia. The project is being developed by specialists from the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute" commissioned by "Gazprom Transgaz Saint Petersburg".
Ustinov stated that foreign companies have shown interest in "Jason". It will be a remotely operated vehicle with great capabilities, including the performance of underwater technical work.
About the "Jason" Mini-Submarine
"Jason" was laid down at "Sevmash" in the summer of 2022. The crew of the submersible will consist of two people: an operator and a technician. Thanks to the transparent plastic hull, the operator will have a 270-degree view. The submersible can operate in fresh and salt water at critical depths.
