In August 2024, the Russian car market ranked second in Europe in terms of new passenger car sales, showing record results for the last almost 3.5 years. According to the "Autostat" agency and the GlobalData consulting company, car sales in Russia reached 148,338 units, which is 35.1% more compared to August 2023.
Germany remains in first place, where 197,322 cars were sold, which is 27.8% less than a year ago. Germany is experiencing a decline in sales due to falling consumer confidence, economic problems, and the impact of high energy prices.
Great Britain took third place in the European ranking with sales of 84,575 cars, which is 1.3% less compared to last year. In August, the UK traditionally sees a decrease in demand due to seasonal fluctuations.
France is in fourth position with 81,694 cars sold (-28.1%), and Italy is in fifth place with 69,121 cars sold (-13.3%). The Spanish car market also showed a decrease of 6.5%, with sales of 52,322 cars.
Thus, the Russian car market demonstrates significant growth against the background of declining sales in other European countries, which emphasizes its strengthening and improving position in the international ranking.
