Concreting of the turbine generator foundation of Unit No. 3 has been completed at the Akkuyu NPP, which is under construction in Mersin Province (Turkey). This was reported by the Rosatom press service.
The foundation will withstand and evenly distribute the large loads that occur during turbine operation. To erect this structure, the nuclear scientists built a spatial reinforcing cage measuring 58.2 m by 20.4 m and 5.3 m high.
2,220 cubic meters of high-strength self-compacting concrete were laid into the geometrically complex foundation structure using continuous concreting.
It will take 56 days for the concrete to fully harden (gain strength). According to Sergei Butskikh, General Director of Akkuyu Nuclear, workers will carry out heat and humidity care for the structure (the process of simultaneously exposing the hardening concrete to heat and moisture). Then a turbo-generator unit will appear on Unit No. 3.
The launch of the first power unit was scheduled for October 29, 2024. But due to problems with the supply of German equipment, the launch dates may be shifted.
