Goodbye 3G: Beeline abandons outdated technology in Moscow

More than 3,000 base stations converted to 4G format

Mobile operator «Beeline» has completely abandoned the 3G standard in the capital. The company has completed the transfer of the outdated UMTS 900 frequency resource to the modern LTE 900. This was the final stage in improving the capital's network.

«Beeline» has improved the availability of 4G mobile Internet and voice communication via VoLTE (Voice over LTE) technology. In 7 days, «Beeline» converted more than 3,000 base stations in Moscow to the 4G standard so that customers could use mobile services from messengers to online cinemas in excellent quality.

The share of Internet traffic at the time of the 3G shutdown was only 1%. The number of real users tended to zero.

It is worth noting that to use mobile Internet based on 4G, you need a phone that supports this standard. You also need a SIM card issued after 2016.

Other operators are not yet planning to completely abandon 3G.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Russia in 2024 will begin preparations for the deployment of 5G and 6G networks throughout the country.
