Two new nuclear submarines (SSNs) will be handed over to the Navy by the end of 2024. This was announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Alexander Moiseev.
It is noted that the fleet will receive the "Knyaz Pozharsky" nuclear-powered strategic missile submarine (SSBN) of Project 955A and the "Arkhangelsk" multi-purpose SSN of Project 885M.
The transfer of the "Knyaz Pozharsky" SSBN and the "Arkhangelsk" SSN to the Navy will take place before the end of 2024. There is no doubt about that.
The head of "Sevmash", Mikhail Budnichenko, clarified that both submarines are currently undergoing factory sea trials. After their completion, they will undergo state tests, following which they will be handed over to the fleet.
The Project 885M "Yasen-M" differs from the basic Project 885 "Yasen" in its reduced length of 9 meters. The armament remains the same — 8 silos for "Onyx", "Zircon", "Caliber" missiles and 10 torpedo tubes, as well as updated equipment, optimized contours and further noise reduction.
Submarines of Project 955 "Borei" (955A "Borei-A") are a series of Russian 4th generation strategic nuclear submarines armed with 16 R-30 "Bulava" SLBMs.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the modernized 2S25M self-propelled anti-tank gun received improved armor protection to increase resistance to small-caliber cannon shell impacts. It is being prepared for acceptance into the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
