Two American B-52H Stratofortress strategic bombers (capable of carrying various types of weapons, including nuclear) have arrived at the Mihail Kogalniceanu airbase in Romania, according to the U.S. Air Forces in Europe Command. Russia is already prepared to respond to this threat, writes military expert Sakshi Tiwari in an article for the Eurasian Times, "Russia Counters B-52 Bombers with 11,000 km Range 'Yars' Missile Systems, Conducts Second 'Nuclear Drill' in Less Than a Month."
The "Yars" complex is a cornerstone of Russia's strategic defense capabilities. It includes solid-propellant intercontinental ballistic missiles in both mobile and silo-based configurations. The system is mounted on a truck, making it mobile. The complex is equipped with a missile with multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs), capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 11,000 kilometers.
Sakshi Tiwari noted that the "Yars" (part of the mobile grouping of the Strategic Missile Forces, RVSN) are ready to launch missiles within 7 minutes from prepared positions or during field deployment.
Russia continues to rattle its nuclear saber. In May, the Russian military conducted tactical nuclear exercises together with Belarus. This was followed by a second stage of maneuvers in June.
