Московский метрополитен 15 мая отмечает день рождения

The Moscow Metro turned 89 years old

The Moscow Metro turns 89 years old. Its history began on May 15, 1935, when the first train with passengers departed from the Sokolniki metro station.

The line started from Sokolniki and stretched to Okhotny Ryad, from where two branches went to Park Kultury and Smolenskaya. In the early stages of construction, tunnels were laid in an open way — with a shovel and pickaxe. Therefore, the creation of the first stations can be safely called a real feat.

Since 2010, the number of stations has increased by 1.5 times. This is the most developed metro network in Europe. All trains of the Moscow Metro run on schedule with an accuracy of 99.99%.
