Russian engineers have modernized the Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM), now they can hit all types of targets, including ATACMS ballistic missiles, "Tochka-U", and projectiles fired from HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS). The effectiveness of the complex has been proven in combat.
According to the head of the SAM system crew with the call sign Eighteenth, the Buk-M3 quickly detects and strikes a maneuvering airborne target. Another serviceman with the call sign Tourist added that the complex automatically recognizes the target and captures it. The operator, who receives this information, only has to make a decision to strike.
Technical characteristics and features of the Buk-M3 SAM system:
- intercepts cruise missiles and aerodynamic targets
- there are 12 missiles on the launcher
- there are 6 missiles on the self-propelled firing unit
- increased chassis payload capacity
- improved control system
- improved crew protection
- effectively operates in conditions of fire and electronic warfare
The first Buk-M3 SAM systems entered the Russian Armed Forces in 2016.
