Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the ceremony of raising the naval flag on the frigate "Admiral Golovko", the small missile ship "Naro-Fominsk" and the minesweeper "Lev Chernavin". The solemn event, which was also attended by the head of the Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu and the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov, took place at the "Severnaya Verf" plant in the Northern capital, the Kremlin press service reported.

According to the head of state, ships such as "Admiral Golovko" are the basis of the strike groups of the Russian Navy. It is equipped with "Caliber" cruise missiles, which have confirmed their effectiveness in combat conditions.

Putin emphasized that ships of the MRK "Naro-Fominsk" type had launched strikes from the Caspian Sea on the positions of militants in Syria. Now they are also successfully performing combat missions as part of the fleet.

The President called "Lev Chernavin" a modern minesweeper with a unique hull. He added that the Russian leadership had decided to build 10 more of these ships.

The inclusion of new ships in the Russian Navy proves that the domestic shipbuilding industry is on the rise. This is an important step for the revival of Russian shipbuilding, Putin stressed.

Currently, five frigates, eight corvettes, thirteen small missile ships and more than fifty ships of other classes are in various stages of readiness on the stocks and at the quays of Russian shipyards

According to the press service of the head of state, after the ceremony he was shown the weapons systems of "Admiral Golovko". Putin also left an entry in the book of honorary guests of the ship.

It is expected that "Admiral Golovko" will join the Northern Fleet, and MRK "Naro-Fominsk" and the minesweeper "Lev Chernavin" - the Baltic Fleet.

Earlier, Putin took part in the flag-raising ceremony on the nuclear submarines "Emperor Alexander III" and "Krasnoyarsk" in Severodvinsk.
