Russian engineers are developing a strike underwater drone with a payload of up to 5 kg, which they plan to use in the combat zone, a source in the Russian defense industry complex said.
According to the source, the drone will be equipped with four engines. The unmanned underwater vehicle will be able to operate at a distance of up to 1 km from the operator. It is noted that testing of the underwater drone will begin in February 2024.
The source pointed out that another task of the underwater drone will be mine clearance. For example, if it is necessary to demine a bridge support, then instead of divers, this work will be performed by a submersible drone. The name of the drone, as well as its technical characteristics, have not yet been disclosed.
Earlier, specialists from CDB «Rubin» presented the underwater drone «Argus» at the «Army-2023» forum. The device can stay on the seabed for up to six months, waiting for a command from the operator.
