The Russian kicksharing service Whoosh has tested a computer vision function in Moscow that helps collect data about the surrounding environment, as well as analyze the reaction of pedestrians.
The development with an enlarged dashboard (a panel displaying information about moving objects around - editor's note www1.ru) was installed on the latest model scooter created by the company. Several hundred devices in the capital region participated in the project. During the experiment, scooters with computer vision were rented 7,500 times.
According to the press service, "smart" scooters successfully recognized people and obstacles, as well as markings for pedestrians. Computer vision helped adjust the speed of the scooter, which increases the safety of movement using personal mobility devices (PMD).
In addition, scooters with the new function recognized zones where passage is prohibited and where it is allowed. Such devices distinguished between the sidewalk, crossing, and roadway.
It was previously reported that Whoosh tested the possibility of controlling a scooter with the "power of thought" using the Neiry neurointerface.
