Photos of the updated Russian armored reconnaissance and patrol vehicle BRDM-2MS have appeared online.
Now it is impossible to approach it either from the air or in any other way. Like its Soviet predecessor, the legendary BRDM-2, tested in the "hot spots" of Afghanistan, Chechnya, South Ossetia and other conflicts, it remains a universal means of armored reconnaissance for the military.
The modernized version of the BRDM-2MS, weighing 6,900 kg, was first seen in 2019, when it was acquired by Serbia, a country friendly to Russia.
The updates include:
- a 150 hp diesel engine;
- a maximum speed of up to 100 km/h on the highway, and up to 50 km/h on dirt roads;
- a fire control system capable of seeing the enemy at a distance of up to 5 km during the day and up to 3.5 km at night;
- a new range of 1,500 km;
- additional 6 mm armor panels against 7.62 mm and 12.7 mm caliber bullets in all projections;
- additional measures to increase mine resistance.
For all-round visibility, the BRDM-2MS is equipped with six TV cameras, allowing the five crew members to monitor the area around the clock.
