Experts at ANO "Digital Economy" have proposed to include in the national project on data economy by 2030 measures to improve communication in the Arctic. It is about creating a state institution with the powers of a communication operator in remote territories. This is reported by "Kommersant" with reference to the presentation materials.
It is noted that the development of the concept of a transarctic communication operator is included in the development plan of the Northern Sea Route until 2035, which was approved by the Russian government on August 1, 2023. According to the information from the presentation, the funds for improving communication in the region are estimated at 60 billion rubles. The implementation of the project is provided through state and private investment.
It is about restoring closed HF radio centers, as well as about building terrestrial segments of fiber optic communication lines (FOCL). Satellite communication remains the main channel of information exchange, but in the current global situation, it is proposed to support HF channels, experts note.
