The popular Western Belgian military magazine "Army Recognition" analyzed how the Russian tank building industry is doing after the introduction of sanctions by the United States and Europe. Experts of the publication came to the conclusion: Russia has successfully been able to "adapt and even thrive in the current circumstances" in this direction.
It is noted that the country has been actively replacing its tank arsenal since February 2022 and the start of the Special Military Operation. And this is not only the production of "old models" such as the T-72, T-62 and T-54/55, but also the T-90. Some of them, during the Special Military Operation, as experts write, were damaged or destroyed.
However, the loss of a T-90 is not necessarily a sign of Russian weakness; rather, it reflects the increased number of T-90s deployed. In essence, Russia is losing more T-90s because it has more to lose.
According to "Army Recognition", the combat losses of Russian tanks represent a "calculated risk". New, already modernized tanks are very quickly replacing the destroyed tanks. So quickly that "Russia could potentially produce enough new T-90MS in six months to surpass the entire arsenal of modern Western tanks in Ukraine."
The publication also notes that the latest military deliveries of the T-90M "Proryv" and T-72B3M have become an "important step" for Russia in strengthening its armored capabilities.
Modernized tanks are of great interest to Western experts. And from all sides: from updates in ammunition to its universal protective "Nakidka", reflecting missiles and drones. They are also interested in external updates to the hull of the T-90M, the "exact purpose" of which remains "a matter of speculation."
Combat operations using UAVs are becoming more common, and such innovations underscore the importance of adapting traditional military equipment to modern challenges. The deployment of these modernized tanks will be closely monitored by military analysts around the world.
"Army Recognition" characterizes the T-90M "Proryv" as having improvements "in protection, mobility and firepower" and describes a number of its new equipment, "increasing survivability on the battlefield" and giving "impressive mobility".
