The Russian online trading platform Wildberries, from October 9, introduced a commission of 3% of the purchase price for paying for goods with Visa and Mastercard cards [both international payment systems suspended operations in Russia in the spring of 2022 - editor's note www1.ru].
The information was confirmed in the marketplace. According to a Wildberries representative, the commission is intended for the bank that processes the payment. These conditions are related to the specifics of the operational and technological process of accepting payments from Visa and Mastercard cards, he summarized.
According to Vedomosti, Wildberries cannot directly process these operations. Experts from the publication noted that settlements using cards of these two systems are carried out through the National Payment Card System, that is, within Russia, and do not differ from transactions with Mir cards. They do not rule out that the platform is simply trying to shift the acquiring costs [cashless payment acceptance technology - editor's note www1.ru] to users.
