The rules for the use of digital copies of identity documents through the mobile application 'State services' developed by the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation have been published on the portal of legal acts projects. It is about the so-called 'digital passport'.
It is noted that the digital version of the passport is a QR code and a photograph, and in some cases a password will also be needed.
From the moment the corresponding resolution comes into force, the 'digital passport' can be shown when buying tobacco and alcohol products, visiting a museum or a public event (to confirm the age), as well as when boarding a train.
In addition, the electronic copy will be useful for identifying a citizen when providing services in municipal institutions (except for real estate related issues and issuance of traditional passports/ international passports)
Starting in January 2024, this list will be expanded. There will be an opportunity to draw up documents for access to the territories of a number of organizations - except for defense industry enterprises and nuclear facilities. With the 'digital passport', it will be possible to send a parcel at the branches of 'Russian Post'.
Starting in January 2025, it is proposed to use the digital version of the document when placing in hotels and hostels, as well as for identification in healthcare organizations. It is noted that in the future, the authorities do not plan to abandon paper passports.
Earlier, the President of the Russian Federation signed a decree giving Russians the right to use the 'digital passport'. The document instructs the government to coordinate the list of documents containing data that can be submitted using the 'State services' application.
