Rosatom reported that the first batch of nuclear fuel for the future Ruppur NPP was delivered to Bangladesh. It was produced by the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant. The same type of fuel is used in Russia for the Leningrad, Novovoronezh and Belorussian NPPs on VVER-1200 power units.
Delivering such a hazardous cargo while complying with all international safety standards was not an easy task. Initially, Rosatom had to obtain a separate license from the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission to import the fuel into Bangladesh.
The license covers rights to import nuclear materials, acquire, possess, handle, and store them, and grants the right for the Russian transport company to transport nuclear materials throughout Bangladesh.
Then it was necessary to pass acceptance commission at the plant in Novosibirsk, where the customer checked the modernity and effectiveness of the products. After that, the process of dispatching and delivering the first batch of fuel started. There will be six more such deliveries by the end of November 2023.
