Russia is testing new fragment-cumulative shells for tanks "Telnik"

The projectile can detonate either upon collision with a target or with a delay, and its fragments can be controlled

Russia is testing new fragmentary-cumulative shells "Telnik", manufactured at Uralvagonzavod. The successful tests of the shells as part of the T90-M tank ammunition were reported in an interview by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces, General of the Army Oleg Salyukov in an interview with the newspaper "Krasnaya Zvezda".

T-90M "Breakthrough-3" tanks are considered the most advanced in the T-90 tank family, including due to the ability to use new ammunition.

As Salyukov noted, "Telnik", developed by Uralvagonzavod, is characterized by "ready striking elements and air burst at a given point in the trajectory".

That is, it is possible to control where the shell fragments will fly, forward to the target or in a circle. Also, the projectile itself can detonate not immediately after it reached the target, but after a certain period of time or obstacle - this can also be controlled.

The shell "Telnik", or ZVOF128 - a development of Russian engineers, similar to the standard fragmentary-cumulative tank shell ZOF26.  Publicly ZVOF128 was presented by Uralvagonzavod in India at the international arms and technology exhibition Defexpo India 2016.

Due to its characteristics, it has few analogs among foreign competitors. "Telnik" is capable of replenishing the ammunition of any Russian tank with a 125 mm gun with adjustment in its fire control complex.
