Speaking in St. Petersburg at the Russia – Africa summit, AvtoVAZ president Maxim Sokolov announced that the company is considering the possibility of resuming assembly of Lada cars in Egypt.
Our main task now is to resume and develop a joint project [for the production of Lada in Egypt]. And we also expect that Egypt and our partner Al Amal can become a transport and logistics hub for the entire African continent.
The president of AvtoVAZ added that the company is considering cooperation with other African countries. For example, Algeria. Maxim Sokolov also outlined a circle of African countries where the company intends to export cars. These are Morocco, Nigeria, Ghana. And also the company might export cars to Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya and Mozambique.
We remind you that the export of Russian cars to Egypt began in 1988 and the full cycle assembly was organized in Egypt in 2001.
