Kalashnikov to Launch Production of New 9mm Self-Loading Udav Pistol by End of 2023

It will now be tested at temperatures from plus 50 to minus 50 degrees, as well as in dusty and rainy conditions

Izhevsk Mechanical Plant (IMZ, part of the Kalashnikov concern) plans to launch mass production of the new 9mm self-loading Udav pistol by the end of this year.

Starting production of the new 6P72 Udav pistol is a landmark event for the company. The plant mastered it in tense conditions, working in three shifts, while simultaneously putting other new products into production. I express my gratitude to the entire team, thanks to whom IMZ is ready for mass production of the new pistol for our army, which, I am sure, will be confirmed by the qualification tests of the first batch. Our next step is to reach mass production by the end of 2023 and ensure its 100% quality.
Interim Managing Director of IMZ Valentina Kargina

The plant clarified that the first batch of Udav will undergo a full cycle of tests at temperatures from plus 50 to minus 50 degrees, as well as in dusty and rainy conditions.

Earlier, sources close to production reported that the first batch of the latest nine-millimeter 6P72 Udav pistols will be assembled by mid-June.

The peculiarity of the Udav is that it was developed for the 9x21 mm cartridge, which gives an advantage in hitting protected armored targets over such common pistols as Makarov and Yarygin.
