The Center for Distributed Ledger Technologies at St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU) has created an interbank messaging system that acts as an analogue to the international SWIFT system. It is decentralized – it works on the blockchain and does not have a single operator. This is recorded as an advantage.
«That is, the system simply does not have a single center and "control panel", all users have access to the necessary information and can exchange bank messages without the restrictions that SWIFT has», – explained Dmitry Shishmakov, director of the center.
The system was created last year and by now it has been tested by more than 10 organizations.
«[DSMS has] an important feature – the ability to create a confidential and secure interaction circuit not only between financial institutions, but also industrial enterprises and groups of companies», – said Andrey Lisitsyn, Managing Director of the Financial Policy and Financial Markets Department of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
