Today, Roscosmos announced that NPO Energomash, which is part of the state corporation, has produced the first flight engine RD-171MV. Its uniqueness lies in its high thrust, which should exceed 800 tons, and this makes the RD-171MV the most powerful engine in the world.
«In June 2023, the Energomash Research and Production Association completed the production of the RD-171MV liquid rocket engine for the first flight tests of the new Soyuz-5 launch vehicle», Roscosmos said. «The next stages of the program will be interdepartmental tests of the RD-171MV and serial supply of engines for Soyuz-5 rockets», the state corporation added.
This year it is planned to assemble the second RD-171MV for the second flight rocket Soyuz-5, and then produce an engine for the third flight rocket.
