According to Avtostat, citing data from JSC "PPK", 72.2 thousand new cars were sold in Russia in May 2023, which is 2.6 times more than in May 2022. However, it is important to consider the effect of the low base: in May last year, against the backdrop of sanctions and the departure of global automakers from Russia, the new car market reached its bottom - only 27.5 thousand cars were sold then.
More than half (51%) of the cars sold in May 2023 are accounted for by three brands: Lada (about 30% of total sales), Chery and Haval (approximately 10% each). Geely and Kia are also in the "brand top 5".
Speaking about the most popular models, Lada Granta is in first place with a large margin (15.8 thousand units were sold in a month). Haval Jolion is in second place (3.9 thousand units), Geely Coolray is in third place (3.5 thousand units). The top 5 models also include Lada Niva Travel (3.2 thousand units) and Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max (3.1 thousand units).
