As "Autostat" writes with reference to the data of JSC "PPK", in May 2023, 72.2 thousand new cars were sold in Russia - 2.6 times more than in May 2022. However, the effect of a low base should be taken into account: in May of the last year, against the background of sanctions and the withdrawal of global car manufacturers from Russia, the new car market hit the bottom - then only 27.5 thousand cars were sold.
More than half (51%) of the cars sold in May 2023 are accounted for by three brands: Lada (approximately 30% of total sales), Chery and Haval (about 10% each). Geely and Kia also made it to the "brand top-5".
If we talk about the most popular models, then in the first place by a large margin - Lada Granta (15.8 thousand units sold per month). In second place is Haval Jolion (3.9 thousand units), in third place Geely Coolray (3.5 thousand units). The top-5 models also include Lada Niva Travel (3.2 thousand units) and Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max (3.1 thousand units).
