Artyom Sheikin, a member of the Constitutional Committee of the Federation Council, has proposed creating an analogue of the "Chinese firewall" in Russia. It will make it impossible to bypass the blocking of unwanted sites.
«In the Russian Federation, given the unprecedented pressure from Western countries and the obvious unfriendly policy, I believe that an analogue of the "Chinese firewall" is necessary, which will be able to completely block access to unwanted Internet resources, including VPN services, if the Russian legislation continues to be ignored,» said the senator.
«As the practice of recent years shows, it is quite difficult to ensure self-regulation of social networks and Internet platforms; a more responsible approach to regulating this industry is required,» Sheikin added.
The senator believes that the Russian Federation should have «the ability to restrict the operation of Internet platforms and slow down traffic in case of non-compliance with the requirements of national legislation».
