The aircraft-carrying cruiser "Admiral Kuznetsov" was commissioned in 1991. Since 2018, the warship has been undergoing repairs and modernization at the 35th Ship Repair Plant of the Zvezdochka Ship Repair Center (part of the USC). Initially, it was assumed that the warship would return to service at the end of 2024, but the deadlines were postponed again.
The ship receives a completely new interior, in particular, a new deck with a ski jump, new cable routes, a new power plant, a new navigation system, and a new control system for the take-off and landing of deck aviation.
After the completion of repairs and modernization, the service life of the aircraft carrier will be extended by 20 years.
Capabilities of the "Admiral Kuznetsov"
The cruiser is designed both to destroy large surface targets, protect naval formations from attacks by enemy submarines and from the air, and to provide air cover for operational formations of ships — an aircraft carrier multi-purpose group.
"Admiral Kuznetsov" is the only warship of Project 11435 "Krechet", created as a compromise between the line of development of ships with vertical take-off and landing aircraft.
The design number of the air wing on the cruiser is 50 aircraft, including 14 Ka-27 helicopters and 36 Su-27K fighters.
The power plant almost completely repeats the one used in Project 1143.4, but due to the increased fuel supply, the cruising range of 18-knot speed increased to 8000 miles. Autonomy has increased by 1.5 times.
Armament of the cruiser
The cruiser is equipped with the Granit anti-ship missile system with 12 launchers with a range of about 420 km. In other respects, the ship's armament is similar to that installed on the "Admiral Gorshkov", but instead of 100-mm installations, the newest Kortik missile and artillery systems appeared.
The missile and artillery complex of the "Admiral Kuznetsov" includes the Kinzhal complex, 24 launchers, 192 vertical launch missiles with a range of 15 km, the Kashtan complex, eight combat modules with 256 missiles and 48,000 shells.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the world's largest Mi-26T helicopter was mothballed after 12 years of storage.
