The foundation for a new complex for repairing T-72 tanks of the Indian army was laid in Jabalpur. The ceremony at the Vehicle Factory Jabalpur was attended by Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, IDRW reports.

The project aims to restore and extend the service life of Soviet T-72s, which remain in service in the country decades after the development of this vehicle.

India continues to operate a significant fleet of T-72s, so the technical condition of these vehicles remains important for maintaining the combat readiness of armored units. Overhauls allow equipment to be restored and returned to service instead of immediately replacing the entire fleet with new tanks.

T-72s arrived in India during the Soviet period, and later the country established their licensed production. Indian vehicles received the designation "Ajeya" and have remained one of the main types of tanks in the Indian army for many years.

However, this is about preserving and restoring existing equipment, not about returning the T-72 to production. For India, this is a way to keep the fleet of combat vehicles in working order while the army gradually updates its armored forces.
