Rosatom has begun returning engineering and technical personnel to the Bushehr NPP site. The first five employees have arrived in Iran and started their duties, stated Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the state corporation.
Currently, there are 25 Russian specialists at the facility. If there is no escalation of the conflict between the US and Iran in the next 2 weeks, several dozen more employees will go to the station, Likhachev noted. By autumn, the number of personnel on the project is expected to increase to 100 people, he added.
Our plans are to return all evacuated specialists as soon as possible. But a return to pre-war parameters is only possible after final agreements are reached between the US and Iran on a cessation of hostilities.
Currently, the main and auxiliary buildings of power units No. 2 and No. 3 are being constructed at the construction site. Nuclear specialists have also begun preparatory work on hydraulic structures.
In late February, the situation in the Middle East sharply escalated. The US and Israel launched strikes on Iran. In response, the Islamic Republic attacked American bases in the region and military facilities in Israel.
Rosatom urged not to endanger the Bushehr NPP, as this is fraught with a man-made disaster. The IAEA mission monitored the radiation situation around the station, but found no risks.
