The Russian S-400 "Triumf" anti-aircraft missile system fundamentally differs from the American Patriot system. The radar stations of the latter only have sectoral coverage, while the radar of the domestic system "sees" 360 degrees, noted the Yaroslavl Higher Military School of Air Defense.
An important feature of the "Triumf" that affects the reaction time in combat application is its vertical launch. The Patriot has an inclined launch, so its radar "looks" only at a specific sector of the sky.
The command post of the system has a more complex radar, with the ability to look all around. And in terms of detection range, I think they are inferior to us.
"Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" compared the capabilities of the S-400 and Patriot by five key parameters. The S-400 wins in terms of range of engagement for aerodynamic targets and versatility of application. The American SAM system gained an advantage in missile defense and accumulated combat experience.
Also, "Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" compiled a rating of the world's longest-range anti-aircraft systems. The S-400 "Triumf" is capable of striking at a distance of up to 380 km, but only with the use of the 40N6E missile.
