Molniya attack drones have received a new "Mask" protection mode, which conceals the flight path and launch location from interception means. The function was added by developers to the UAV software to increase the stealth of the aircraft's use.
After gaining altitude and stabilizing flight, the operator activates the "Mask" mode. At this moment, the image on the screen is reduced to a small area, occupying less than a quarter of the frame. This method of operation limits the volume of transmitted information and makes it significantly more difficult to determine the takeoff point, flight path, and other parameters of the drone when attempting to intercept the signal.
According to operators, the new technology allows for the concealment of telemetry and other data that can be used to track the drone and the location of the crew.
However, this mode places higher demands on pilot training. Due to the greatly reduced image, the operator has to navigate almost with a limited picture, independently determining the altitude, speed, and position of the aircraft relative to the terrain. Effective operation requires good knowledge of routes, confident piloting skills, and experience in drone control.
Earlier, Pervy Tekhnichesky reported that the Molniya aircraft-type FPV drone received an unusual but extremely simple upgrade – an ordinary magnetic compass was attached to the body of the aircraft so that it was visible in the onboard camera's field of view.
