The Russian import-substituted Mi-171A3 helicopter has received permission to fly at temperatures down to minus 50 ℃. The approval was issued by Rosaviatsiya after testing the aircraft in severe frost conditions in Yakutia. The checks were carried out by specialists from "NVC Mil and Kamov", which is part of the "Russian Helicopters" holding of the "Rostec" state corporation.

As part of the program in Yakutia, the helicopter performed 66 flights, and the engine underwent 22 ground checks in freezing temperatures. According to Nikolai Kolesov, CEO of "Russian Helicopters" holding, the aircraft proved reliable even in severe cold conditions.

Rosaviatsiya noted that helicopter technology is of great importance for transport links with remote and hard-to-reach territories of Russia. The new permit expands the operating conditions of the Mi-171A3, which is designed for transporting passengers and cargo, including in difficult weather conditions and for instrument flights.

The Mi-171A3 became the first fully Russian offshore helicopter. The aircraft was developed, among other things, for flights over large bodies of water.

In March, the "Russian Helicopters" holding completed the certification of the Mi-171A3 in its import-substituted version. Now the helicopter has received confirmation of its ability to operate in extreme cold conditions.
