Russian Helicopters holding (part of Rostec) delivered the first serial offshore Mi-171A3 helicopters to PAO Gazprom. Three rotorcraft flew from the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant to Sakhalin Island. There, they will be used to transport people and cargo to offshore fields, the corporation's press service reported.

The Mi-171A3 is the first multi-purpose Russian helicopter that complies with all modern aviation standards and is designed, among other things, for flights to offshore drilling and production platforms.

Features of the Mi-171A3 for safe operation:

  • emergency ditching system implemented
  • equipped with rescue flotation devices for forced landing
  • modernized fuel system, preventing leakage during emergency landing
  • digital pilot for automatic flight

Rostec Deputy General Director Vladimir Artyakov stated that the Mi-171A3 is the first domestic helicopter certified for flights over vast water surfaces. Previously, foreign equipment was purchased for these purposes or non-specialized rotorcraft were used, he emphasized.

Thanks to the cooperation between Gazprom and Rostec, Russia has for the first time established the production of high-tech domestic offshore helicopters, noted Alexey Miller, Chairman of the company's Management Committee. They will be operated at existing and new offshore fields, where "colossal hydrocarbon reserves are concentrated," the top manager concluded.
