Future creators of Russian aircraft engines PD-8 and PD-14 are more often found at 3D printers than at lathes. Additive technologies are becoming one of the key tools in modern engine manufacturing, ODK reported.
United Engine Corporation has launched a series of master classes where about 300 schoolchildren will undergo training in 10 days.
Participants are shown how products are created using layer-by-layer printing, demonstrated a model of the PD-14 engine, and explained why such technologies are already used in the production of parts.

During the classes, schoolchildren independently launch the printing process of a turbofan engine model, control the first layers of the product, and perform its post-processing.
Sergey Polyakov, a process engineer at ODK-Saturn, noted that additive technologies have proven effective in aircraft engine manufacturing, but their potential has not yet been fully realized.
