Another large Chinese-origin crossover with local assembly is entering the Russian market. The first Esteo MX unit has already been registered with the Russian State Traffic Inspectorate. According to the Telegram channel "Kitayskiye Avtomobili" (Chinese Cars), citing "Autostat Info" statistics, the registration took place in April, but the car was registered under the name Exeed MX.
Interest in the model is not only due to the new brand. The Esteo MX is a version of the Chinese Exeed crossover localized in St. Petersburg. In fact, it is an attempt to introduce an already familiar platform to the market under a new name and with Russian production involvement.
The car is equipped with a two-liter turbocharged engine with 197 hp and 375 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a classic eight-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive is standard.
In terms of dimensions, the Esteo MX belongs to the segment of large family crossovers. The body length is 4775 mm, the wheelbase is 2800 mm, and the ground clearance is 210 mm. The trunk volume varies from 470 to 1456 liters, making the model a competitor to popular mid-size SUVs.
The fact of registration itself may indicate the approaching official start of sales. Usually, vehicle registration is one of the last stages of preparing a model for market launch. For the Russian automotive industry, this also indicates the ongoing localization of Chinese automotive platforms after the departure of a number of Western manufacturers.
