First time in history: Primorskaya GRES replaces a record-breaking generator

A giant 170-ton stator was transported during the reconstruction of Unit No. 7

At Primorskaya GRES, the dismantled 170-ton stator of power unit No. 7's generator was successfully moved to a temporary site. The work was carried out by the Siberian Generating Company team as part of the reconstruction of the 210 MW unit. This is the first time in the station's history that a generator of such capacity has been replaced.

The operation required jeweler's precision: two 100-ton cranes, working in synchronous mode, were used for lifting. The route was laid at height through two operating power units – the stator was delivered to the territory of the operating unit No. 5. Each stage was agreed upon in advance to exclude risks for personnel and equipment.

The reconstruction of the unit started in March 2026. Active dismantling is currently underway: the turbogenerator has been completely disassembled, and the excitation system, busbars, and circuit breaker will be replaced with new ones. The high and medium-pressure rotors have been sent for factory repair, and a new low-pressure rotor will be installed. Six regenerative system heaters, pumping equipment, and the technical water supply system are subject to renewal.

Insulation and heating surfaces are being dismantled on the boiler – a total of about 1800 tons of metal will be replaced. Outdated wet ash collectors will be replaced by modern electrostatic precipitators with new smoke exhausters, which will improve environmental performance. Instead of manual regulation, an automated control system will be introduced, which will increase control accuracy and operational safety.

The modernization of the seventh of nine units is part of a large-scale station upgrade program. After commissioning, the unit will help achieve a nominal capacity of 1467 MW.
