In Russia, it has been proposed to create an "energo-ruble," a digital currency for electricity and heat payments. The idea is to link payments to consumed energy. According to calculations by scientists from Tolyatti and Nalchik, such a system could benefit the state, businesses, and ordinary consumers.
The idea was developed by specialists from Kabardino-Balkarian State University and Tolyatti State University. The press service of TSU explained that the "energo-ruble" is not a replacement for ordinary rubles, but a new method of payment for utility services and energy for businesses.
Scientists propose using the digital ruble, which Russian banks are already testing, in energy service contracts. In other words, they want to link the digital ruble to the cost of a certain amount of energy.
According to scientists, payments can be made through "smart" energy service contracts, where payments are automatically executed through computer programs that monitor the transaction and transfer money when the service is rendered.
According to the authors of the study, this approach can reduce energy consumption in construction and housing and communal services by up to 30%.
Scientists have already built a mathematical model and created a digital copy of an energy company. On it, they tested how calculations could work in different cases – for example, if the payer is a large factory or an apartment building.
TSU believes that the proposed system can be useful for the state, management companies, housing and communal services organizations, industrial enterprises, and citizens.
