Russia is launching a system for boarding planes using biometrics, without presenting a passport or paper documents. The government has approved the pilot project for the "Migom" service for Sheremetyevo and Pulkovo airports.
The experiment will affect Aeroflot flights between Moscow and St. Petersburg. The service is expected to be launched by the end of the first half of 2026, and the project itself will run from July 2026 to April 2027.
Passengers only need to register their biometrics in the Unified Biometric System in advance, after which they will be able to automatically confirm their identity upon boarding.
The office of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko clarified that the use of the service will remain voluntary. Biometrics can be registered at authorized banks or special points at airports.
According to the government decree, the system must confirm identity with an accuracy of no less than 0.9999. In the future, other airports and airlines will be able to join the experiment.
