"Oreshnik" Named Second-Echelon Weapon in Conjunction with "Sarmat"

Expert Stepanov Discussed the Role of the Complexes in Combined Use

The "Oreshnik" missile system acts as a support weapon in combined use with the "Sarmat." This opinion was expressed by military expert Alexander Stepanov from the Institute of Law and National Security of RANEPA.

In turn, "Oreshnik" is, one might say, a second-echelon deterrence tool that allows covering the entire continental Europe and isolated island states in a matter of minutes. These strike capabilities, with a combined launch, are sufficient to de facto neutralize all NATO military infrastructure in the European theater of operations.

Stepanov noted that the combined use of the two complexes, in his assessment, is capable of neutralizing the military infrastructure of any enemy.

The expert also emphasized that the use of such systems is considered only under conditions of a critical threat to Russia's sovereignty. Among the escalation factors, he named the increase in military activity near Russian borders.

Earlier, the Commander of the Strategic Missile Forces, Sergey Karakaev, reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the successful launch of the "Sarmat" complex. The first regiment with this intercontinental ballistic missile is planned to be put on combat duty after staffing is completed.
