New Minesweeper "Polyarny" Joins Russian Navy

The Project 12700 "Alexandrit" ship, made of monolithic fiberglass, is considered the largest in the world among vessels of its class

The newest minesweeper "Polyarny" of Project 12700 "Alexandrit" has officially joined the Russian Navy. The ceremony of raising the St. Andrew's flag took place in Baltiysk, and the ship was built at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard for the Northern Fleet.

The Ministry of Defence reported that before being handed over to the fleet, the minesweeper underwent factory sea trials and state tests in the Baltic Sea. The crew, together with specialists from the enterprise, checked the operation of power plants, navigation systems, radio-technical equipment, and weaponry.

"Polyarny" became the tenth ship of Project 12700 in the Russian fleet. Its displacement is 890 tons, and its length is 61 meters. The minesweeper can reach speeds of up to 16.5 knots. The ship's crew exceeds 40 people.

Project "Alexandrit" ships are distinguished by high maneuverability and a monolithic fiberglass hull, which is considered the largest in the world among ships of this class. The project was developed by CMKB "Almaz".
