Prostheses for swimming, playing ball, and weightlifting: New developments showcased in Russia

Domestic engineers presented devices adapted for high physical activity

Developments allowing people with disabilities to return to active life and sports – including weightlifting and downhill skiing – were presented in Moscow. Details were revealed by Rostec.

Today, about 30 enterprises of the state corporation are engaged in healthcare developments. Among them are MPO "Metallist" and the Center for Innovative Technologies in Orthopedics (CITO).

These companies produce over 1000 types of prosthetic components and more than 500 types of medical devices, including orthoses, implants, and complex rehabilitation systems.

They presented their solutions at a Rostec strategic session with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science at Sechenov University. The event discussed how to implement domestic technologies to help people with physical disabilities, including demobilized participants of the special operation.

Among the developments of MPO "Metallist" is the "Kometa" knee module. It allows the patient to swim, and the built-in microprocessor automatically adjusts the prosthesis's operation to the rhythm and characteristics of walking.

CITO presented sports prostheses that enable participation in weightlifting, running, downhill skiing, and other sports.
